How to Link AADHAAR with PAN Card

  3. The user who had linked Aadhar card with PAN card will get a summarised detail of taxes charged on him.
  4. If you are a taxpayer then for you it is more important to link because your income tax return form would not be processed if your PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar card.

# Method 1 – How to Link your Aadhaar with PAN Card Online by e-Filing Website

This is the first method which you can follow for linking your Aadhar card with your PAN card. Follow these simple steps and link your cards easily.

Step 1. First, you need to visit the Income Tax e-Filing website for linking your PAN card and Aadhaar card.

Step 2. Now enter your PAN card number and Aadhaar card number in the form.

Step 3. Now enter your name which will be mentioned on your Aadhaar card.

Step 4. In case only your birth year is mentioned on your Aadhaar card, you have to tick the square.

Step 5. Now fill the captcha code listing in the image for human verification.

Step 6. If you don’t want to enter the captcha code then you can tick the option for request an OTP in your mobile. Then you have to enter the mobile number which will link to your bank account number.

Step 7. Now click on the “Link Aadhaar” button for linking Aadhar card with your PAN card.

Step 8. A message will appear on your screen that your Aadhaar card will be successfully linked with your PAN card.

# Method 2 – Link manually your Aadhaar card and PAN card by filling up a form

Now CBDT has offered a manual process to make easy the issues that taxpayers face in case Aadhaar card details and PAN card details are mismatching.

You can visit a service center of PAN service provider, UTIITSL or NSDL. There you will be asked to fill a form of ‘Annexure-I’. You have to bring your PAN card photocopy and Aadhaar card photocopy for filling the form.

Like online services, this service is not free of charge. You have to pay an authorized fee to them. The fee varies from your PAN card to Aadhaar card where you need to correction of information made in PAN card or Aadhar card for linking them.

For any correction in the PAN card information, the correction fee is Rs 110 and for correcting Aadhaar card information, the correction fee is Rs 25. But if there is any huge correction which needs to resolve then you have to give a biometric authentication for that.

# Method 3 –  Linking of Aadhaar card with your PAN card by SMS

Now everyone can link their Aadhaar card with their  PAN card through SMS also. The Income Tax Department has given a very easy method for taxpayers to link their Aadhaar card with their PAN card, using an SMS-based process.

This process can be done by sending an SMS to any of these numbers 567678 or 56161. Send a SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in this  format —  UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN> Example: UIDPAN 123456789123 AKPLM2124M.

This is a very easy process which anyone can do with their home just by sending an SMS from their mobile.

Correction for Linking your PAN with Aadhaar Card (Online Method)

It is noting that the PAN card and Aadhar card linking is successful only when all your details in both the documents match. In the case there are any errors like spelling mistakes in your name then your PAN card will not be linked with Aadhaar card. You can correct your mistakes through UIDAI’s website or on the portal of NSDL PAN. You can follow these steps for correction:–

  • You can correct your PAN card details using the NSDL website.
  • The NSDL link will redirect you to the page where you can apply for the correction of your name.
  • You have to submit signed documents in order to correction your details.
  • When you correct your details in your PAN card then it will be confirmed by NSDL by a mail then you can easily link your PAN card with Aadhaar card.

The second method through UIDAI method is relatively simpler. Here’s the full guide, you can do it through UIDAI’s website:–

  • Visit the UIDAI website’s Self Service Update Page and enter your Aadhaar card number and fill the security code.
  • An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  • In case If you want to change the spelling of your name, only OTP is required.
  • In case you want to change other details like gender and date of birth, you have to send another document for updating.
  • Once your request will be approved, you can link your PAN card with Aadhaar card.

Here one thing is to be cleared that your mobile number is to be registered in the AADHAAR database. If you have lost or changed your mobile you need to update the mobile number by visiting any AADHAAR centre near to you.

PAN cards have to be compulsorily linked with Aadhaar card before the deadline ends otherwise your PAN card will be deactivated by the Income Tax Department. The name of the applicant should be the same on both the PAN card and the Aadhaar card.

If your name’s spelling mismatch on PAN card then you will be unable to link Aadhaar card with PAN card. You will have to get your name corrected and for making your correction on your PAN card you can follow these steps:–

Step 1: Visit this NSDL. website.

Step 2: Select which changes or correction in existing PAN data of PAN Card (No changes in Existing PAN Data) option from the drop-down menu

Step 3: Now select the individual category and then enter your details.

Step 4: Make payment and submit your form online after Aadhaar e-KYC  

Step 5: Your new updated PAN card will be sent to your address.

Step 6: Once you receive your new updated PAN card then you can link your PAN card with Aadhaar card. 

In case your name in the AADHAAR card is wrongly spelt then follow these steps for corrections:–

Step 1: Visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre  

Step 2: Carry a self-attested copy(your signed copy) of your Identity proof.

Step 3: Fill the Aadhaar Enrolment Form.

Step 4: Submit the form with your document.

Step 5: You will get an acknowledgment slip that contains the update request number  

Step 6: This URN can be useful for checking the status of your update request.

Step 7: Once your PAN card update request is processed and your name will be corrected. Then you can link your PAN card with Aadhaar card.

A. Yes, you can file your tax returns but it will not be processed till your Aadhaar card is not linked with PAN card. Question 2:-  Is there any other process to link the PAN with Aadhaar?

A. This time, there are only these processes. The user has to get his documents linked by any one of these processes.

Question 3:-  Do NRIs need Aadhaar card for e-file?  

A. NRIs are exempt from quoting their Aadhaar card while filing their income tax e-returns.

Questions 4:- What if anyone’s income is below that taxable limits?  

A. Even if the taxable income of an individual person is below to the taxable limits then he also has to link his PAN card with Aadhaar card. Otherwise your PAN card will be deactivated.

Question 5:-  Why did I get a failed authentication message when I try to link my Aadhaar card with my PAN card?

  A. You should have to enter the correct OTP which will sent to your registered mobile number. If you enter wrong OTP, you will get the failed authentication message. 

Question 6:-  Is it mandatory to create an account in the department website?

 A. All taxpayers must have to create an account with the Income Tax Department to file their e-returns.

Question 7:– What is the condition where Aadhaar with PAN linking is not compulsory?

 A. It is not cumpulsory to link your Aadhar card with your PAN card in these following conditions.

  • If you are an NRI.
  • If you are a residents of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu & Kashmir states.
  • For foreign nationals residing in India.
  • For those senior citizens who are more than 80 years of age at any time during the financial year.

Question 8:- How can Anyone change the mobile number that is registered with their Aadhaar card?

A. In order to get your mobile number updated, you have to visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and get your mobile number updated.

Question 9:-  Do I have to submit any documentary proof to link my PAN and Aadhaar card?

 A. Linking PAN with Aadhaar is a very simple process. You can do it online or via SMS. You do not have to submit any documented proof.

Question 10:- What are the details I have to check when linking my PAN with my Aadhaar card?

  A. You have to check your name, gender, and date of birth when linking your Aadhaar with PAN. In case there are errors, you can get them rectified before linking both documents.
